The Watch Dogs 2 voice over artiste Mena Massoud is suing Tesla after he said a faulty suspension caused his wheel to come off, spinning his Model 3 out of control a day after he bought it. He says a defect in his Tesla Model 3 led to his car wreck, and it comes from a problem area the company has known about for years.

Anyone know the real deal with 'whompy wheels'?Many of you have seen the product of the troll who has been creating the whompy wheels stuff about Tesla. If you haven't, you can just google 'whompy wheels' and you'll find it. Now, the customer satisfaction ratings and ratio of good experiences to bad experiences are all the evidence I need to know that this really is a non issue. But damn.. why do the wheels fall off? I have seen thousands of car accidents in my life time, both in person and in photos. And I can't say I've ever seen a car's wheel snap off at the axle. I'm sure it has happened.. but without a doubt, it is a rare occurrence. Airflow license key. Definitely no where near the frequency that it happens with Teslas. My presumption is that Teslas don't have through axles for their wheels. Thus they don't have that strong steel metal rod to attach the wheel hub to. Instead, I guess they have to bolt it directly or nearly directly to a motor mount.. and I guess its just not as strong as a conventional axle. Now, a crash hard enough to sever a wheel is going to total the car anyways, so it really doesn't matter all that much. But it still would be nice to know what the real physics based explanation is on why wheels detach from Tesla's in collisions.
